With one round to go,the SWL team consolidated their position towards the top of Division Two though the 3rd place at the superb Thames Valley Centre was just short of lifting us into a promotion place.Highlights included the usual substantial points from Dominique Blaize,Camilla Thrush & Rachel Burbridge and supporting cast with welcome enhancements from the returning mum,Debbie Raymond and from U17 Jenny Davies with a pb SP at 9.75 - and a win over Camilla Thrush! Only a nap hand of youngsters with, again, usual top scorers Harriet Lester,Roseanne Mackay(gritty 200 A string win) & Rachel Moore dominating but the most heartening performances in this group came from U13s Lucy Jones, improving to 13.8 over 75 hurdles, and from Josie Inverdale who murdered her 800 pb bringing it down to 2.39.2. Last match is at Kingsmeadow on Sep 11. Scores:WSEH 186,Ashford 166,K&P 156,N Devon 149,W Suffolk 68. We are 9th overall.

Sportshall,Lily B & Southern Mens Leagues are all part and parcel of the athletics scene and the development of the sport locally, the athletes and the club, and team managers and the team members the more so - and don't let UKAthletics or Tony Ward tell you otherwise. The present incumbents have very successfully taken their teams and their athletes as far as they would wish and would now like to move to pastures new. We know for sure that there are parents out there who are very capable of taking over the mantles. So,Gillian Libretto(Sportshall),Clare Nelson(Lily B) & Maurice Joyce(SML) would welcome chats with potential successors. Full support will be gladly given - and you, too, can contribute to the development of your offspring, and of athletics and athletes in Kingston and surrounding areas. The author of this appeal will also be very pleased to hear from you!

A significant improvement in the turnout of both boys and girls gave us a far more competitive team but, sadly, the 3rd place was too little, too late for us to retain our Division One status and we shall be in the six- or seven-team Div Two South with fellow Surrey & Middx teams for 2005.

The Ladies, under the auspices of Sasha G., duly retained their Rosenheim Trophy very easily though only narrowly won the Bank fixture from E&E - Liz Richardson & Rachel Burbridge posted season's bests and Dominique Blaize made yet another 'training' appearance in a very busy summer.A rumour persists that the Eastern Division may revive a womens competition in 2005 so there may be a final alongside the men,if it happens. On a balmy evening, the Men enjoyed a three-way tie with the home club & R&T and go forward,as expected,to defend the overall trophy at Tooting on August 18th.With Humphrey Waddington leading by example as usual, Michael Huntley clocked 2 pbs,Draco Mkpa won twice and a batch of veterans saw us up to 50 points.Match scores- W K&P 37,E&E 34 etc and overall - K&P 29,E&E 21,Walton 18 etc. & Men - Bank,K&P & R&T 50 each etc and overall - R&T 32.5,K&P 29.5,BA 20.5 & Bank 18.5 the 4 qualifers.

Some nine souls enjoyed themselves at Battersea though we scored just 49 points and confirmed our 14th place in the division.Several members had run-outs of relevance to the future;Lanre Akinlagun & Marc Trevisan made first SML appearances;Simon Grier geared up for a good winter with a 400/800 double and Mike Mason came back to competition.
