Inhospitable weather did not enthuse at most county venues in the UK,though Dominique Blaize's return to major outdoor competition rather belied that view.

SURREY at Kingsmeadow,Day One.
U13Girls - Stephanie Mitchell narrowly missed a medal in her 70 Hurdles,taking 4th in 14.99.
U15G - Saskia Fitzpatrick took the Long Jump title with 4.56,having also won the U13s in 2009, with Bryony Ross at 3.42;neither Nicole Kendall(13.47) & Saskia(13.68) were quite fast enough to qualify for their 75Hurdles progression, nor were Layla Thompson(800 2.38.30) and sister Mae(30.16) & Bryony(31.17) over 200.
U17W - Rahannah Gillette-Vernon took silver in the Javelin,with Maura Maughan 4th(24.57).
U20W - Fine run by Molly Renfer, slashing some 4 secs off her best with 2.14.02 for 3rd in an exciting three-way battle for medals - and only a couple of secs off Catherine Berry's more than useful Club record.
SW - W40 Camilla Thrush was one place off metal, taking 4th in the Discus with 31.39.
U13B - Nick Rilett's 2.50.18PB 800 did not qualify for his Final.
U15B - Pride of place to William van Klaveren's Javelin win,just outside his recent PB;though Tom Dawson's bronze over 400(58.73) was worthy;Lewis Bateman made his 100 Final after a 12.73 heat;whilst Sam Vassall's 4.51.50 over 1500 was a clear PB,but,gallingly,the fastest non-qualifier.
U17M - Nikolaj Schubert's 2.23.48 was a large PB,but not quite enough to progress, whilst Matt Elmore found the straight 200m Final a trifle nippy.
U20M - There were silvers for Gordon Lester(PV 3.80) and for Richard Smeaton over 400 in a season's best(51.39);George Corcoran was up against fast opposition over 1500 and could not emulate his midweek PB,but added to his databank of tactics;Kyan Koranteng made the 400 Final(54.08) but injury forced him to miss the Final;whilst Hussein Al-Kemakchi and Adam Wicks met some bulkier exponents in their throwing events.
SM - Cook was a good name to have - Gareth won his umpteenth(sorry, same adjective as last year shows poor journalistic research faculties) Surrey title, taking the Hammer in a season's best of 51.93;and David of that ilk commenced his jumping season with a very neat legal(+1.4) leap of 7.30,though being outjumped for 1st place by WGEL's Ezekiel Ewulo. Otherwise, the sprinters were trying to impress over 200,but left the BAL TM still grasping - Victor Nwagbara(22.84) and Matt Field(22.93) made the Final, whilst Justin Green(23.11),Jason-Louis Bernard(24.65),Draco Mkpa(24.67) and Pat Logan(24.86) found conditions less encouraging than at the midweek Rosenheim.
SURREY at Kingsmeadow,Day Two.
U15G - Lauren Edwards' 1.30 HJ for 6th= was just pipped by Nicole Kendall's PB at 1.35,but Lauren posted a season's best over 100(14.08),ahead of Bryony Ross's 14.62.
U17W - Maura Maughan posted a season's best SP at 6.07;with Charlotte Merrifield finding 30.55 over 200 not enough to progress.
U20W - Pippa Wingate consolidated her 2010 form by winning the Hammer at 36.54,as well as taking bronze at SP(9.60). On the track,Molly Renfer was a revelation again - after the 800 breakthrough on Saturday, she posted a fine 59.20 PB in her 400 heat, only to further catch the selectorial eye with a 3rd PB in 24 hours, taking 5th in the Final in 58.51.
SW - Mary Iheke was close to her PB over 200,taking 3rd at 25.71;Camilla Thrush threw a SB to grab the Hammer bronze at 37.69 plus a SB at SP(10.47);whilst Maddie Hardwick followed a brave attempt to dominate over 1500(4th 4.56.55,just outside her best) by almost matching her recent PB at Harrow by taking the bronze over 3000(10.39.70).
U15B - Matt Broderick took bronze with his 1.45 HJ PB.
U17M - Asher Nelson claimed the silver in the Javelin(34.87),narrowly ahead of Kiran Richards whose 34.69,and 10.82 TJ,earned him bronzes, though his 4th place in the Discus(29.85) was likely his best mark of the day.Trackwise,Tucker Bryant is now right in the frame in the sprints in the County, running an early 11.40 heat(nwr)and showing commendable speed to clock an 11.20PB for the bronze in the Final, and only just over the wind limit at +2.2.
SM - Mike Clarke was close to his SB in the Javelin, taking bronze at 44.73;over 100,David Cook(11.24),Jason-Louis Bernard(12.14) and M45 Pat Logan(11.7man) missed qualifying but the latter found his fastest of the 'summer' so far.Over 400,Maris Kuklis struggled, but the experienced Adam Bellis proved his fitness with the BAL approaching, following a 52.26qual with 5th in the Final at 51.75.
MIDDLESEX at Copthall.
Dominique Blaize sparkled,or perhaps given the damp weather, glistened on her first serious day out for 2 years - 14.04 100 Hurdles and 6.19 LJ wins, plus a 24.28 silver over 200 are grounds for much optimism come the later challenges - all 3 marks were marginally shy of her own PBs.
BUCKS & Oxon at Oxford,Horspath - Tom Beedell won the Bucks 3000Steeple title in 10.20.94
CAMBS at St Ives - Sam Dobin ran 54.03 over 400 in an effort to add some speed to his recent PBs over 800/1500 in readiness for the Varsity match on May 15th.
DORSET at Bournemouth - Adam Omisore took the SM 100(11.6) and ran a 51.3 400,just outside his PB.
