Match 2 Report:

Very good performances were recorded from our small team who put in 100% effort to get as many points as they could to keep us in 4th position overall. William Van Klaveren has been a key factor in our points in the field, topping the U15s boys shot, discus and running a very creditable 12.5 in the 100m. Matthew Stevens and Matt Broderick have also shown their field events skills by picking up valuable points. Issac Henriquez in the boys U13 discus of 11.71m earned him first place in the B event.

Personal Bests

Rory Vassell 100m 16.3

Harry Morgan (a new member) high jump – 1.25m

Issac Henriquez – javelin – 18.50m

Matthew Stevens – 800m – 2.37.6

Matt Broderick – triple jump – 10.00m

Phillip Bearman – 1500m – 4.48.7

Harry Morgan is a promising newcomer and will hopefully continue with the sport through to next year as he has another year in the U13s age group. Kingston finished in 5th place on the day with 86 points in M2.

Hoping for an even stronger team for the final match did not happen and unfortunately we were hit by the start of the summer holidays when our contemporaries were not, as proved because they all turned out in force. However, with the arrival of new members who happily came out to run and throw together with a couple of the regular team members, I extend heartfelt thanks to them and the parents that brought them to the Walton track.

Notable performances:

Matthew W Stevens in the boys 80m hurdles who wasn’t afraid to have a go.

Oliver Phelps in the U13 800m for running 2.43.4. Ollie ran a sensible race and finished strongly to overtake 3 on the last lap.

Matt Broderick – High Jump – 3rd in 1.45m

The competition has been very high this year in the Ebbisham (higher level than in the NYAL) as we were against Herne Hill, Croydon,Sutton and Guildford. Dorking Mole Valley, who have amalgamated with Reigate Priory and Holland Sports to give more strength to their team, beat us by 7 points and they are joining us next year in Division 2. Although we have competed enthusiastically, it has shown that our athletes are not as fast or skilled as others, but are starting to develop into good athletes.

I am hoping that competing in Div 2 will give us a chance to renew and lift our performances with more wins next year to give our athletes who commit to the club in competition, a boost.

THANK YOU to the officials who helped throughout the season: David Barrington, Sheila Brackpool, Frank Schubert, Susanne Dietrich, Andy Robinson, David Stevens, Ian Broderick, Owen Atkinson and Maurice Joyce.
