Lily B Match Report: 22nd April 2019

The first Lily B match of the season was at Epsom and Ewell on the beautiful Easter bank holiday Monday. The girls showed a great team spirit throughout the day. One athlete even rushed all the way to the match after a transatlantic flight to make it just in time for her events, what a great effort!

We had a few last minute changes due to illness/injury but special thanks to those people that stepped up to fill an event when it was needed. This made a huge difference, as we gained those extra points which meant we enjoyed our 1st win of the season by 13 points. As new team managers, we felt very proud of all the girls and really enjoyed the day.

Congratulations to all of our under 11’s Lara, Amelia, Rosie May, Mia and Arabella for competing in their first match this season and all achieving some great results.

We had 8 under 13’s all of whom achieved a PB in at least one of their events. Welcome to our new athletes – Jean Marie Keeya, Calla Lazou and Erin Chandler. Congratulations to Erin who scored the most points that day. Special thanks to Caitlin Pemberton who scored 12 points from 2 events and braved the 1500m for the team.

Most of the under 15’s competed in 3 events each, with lots of PBs on the day. Well done to Sophie Doherty who scored maximum points for all her events, coming back from a long injury with a PB in Long jump 4.72m and 75m hurdles 12.5 seconds. We also welcomed new club member Jemyra Keeya (on her debut) who won the B string Shot with a throw of 8.08m, plus Javelin 17.01m & Hammer 23.42m – it’s great to have another keen thrower in the U15 team.  Jemima Harcourt also had a great day - after winning her hurdles race, she surprised herself with an impressive high jump PB 1.57m.

We were very lucky to have 12 under 17’s, a few were not able to stay too long due to GCSE revision understandably. Again, lots of PBs, with special thanks to Francesca Austin-Endersby for competing in the 1500m scoring more valuable points for the team. Zoe Shepherd popped down for a quick throw of the shot thanks to Renzo’s powers of persuasion and was rewarded with a PB of 11.85m. Kira Holt, Maddison Hutton and Francesca must be delighted with 3 PB’s each on the day too. We have some great athletes in the team and each and every one played their part on the day.

We would like to thank Pat Logan for helping organise the U11’s and supporting the girls. Thanks also to the officials – Richard White (Level 2 field judge), Brenda Ford (Track judge) and Maurice Joyce (timekeeper) and to all parents who stepped in to help - we can’t do it without you!

We look forward to match 2 at Walton on Thames on 1st June and hope for another successful day against some tough opposition.

Kind Regards

Nina & Susy
