British Athletics League Division Four M2 Derby June 5th 2004 Print

Some crucial injuries restricted the BAL team to a lowly 7th equal at Moorways Stadium in this Round 2 Match though overall,at the halfway stage,K&P still hold a very narrow advantage in 5th place of the 8 teams,with a home match to come on July 3rd. Some improved track performances and another unholy contribution from Messrs Owen & Roberts could not keep us afloat on the day though 245 points is no mean score.

Dominique Blaize celebrated her selection for British Schools in the EuroSchools meet in Milan by winning the Long Jump at 5m91(and only 4 trials allowed-disgraceful!);at the new Brunel University complex,at the Opening Meet,Nic Owen threw his best of the season,taking the Shot with 15m.76;and at Watford Stuart Price again lowered his pb,snatching silver in the Southern Counties Champs U15Boys 80 Hurdles in 11.46. Dominique,currently ranked 8= in both the UK Senior HJ & LJ Lists, now goes for GBU20s at LJ at Loughborough on June 6.

In favourable if malodorous conditions,many of the 11 K&P members in action posted season's bests,as if to celebrate Meet Organiser Maurice Joyce's 60th birthday;Camilla Thrush again excelled with an Open Womens Club Hammer record(her own anyway) of 34m.93,also a Club Vets mark,too along with her 24m.69 Javelin.Elsewhere Chuck Isetts & Mike May appreciated the rare helpful,though legal,wind over both 100/200 & Roger Bayliss,in picking up a silver medal over 400,managed to erase a painful midweek 'defeat' !!

The women were matched this time by E&E and were eventually pipped by 1 point,but lead overall by 23 match pts - 2 wins from Camilla Thrush & a pb 400(62.4) for Rachel Burbridge were highlights. The men were again indebted to 2nd claimers,Steve Huckstep(with 2 pbs) & Steve Cotton plus the ubiquitous Humphrey Waddington who claimed a pb HJ at 1.60.Ant Budarkiewicz won the 3k at 9.24.5.Scores on night-W:E&E 46,K&P 45 etc and after 2 rds-K&P 9(104),E&E 9(81),Walton 6 etc and M:BoE&R&T 45 each,BA&K&P 40 etc and after 2 rds-R&T 11.5,BA 8.5,K&P 7.5(76),BoE 7.5(72).
