Jack Petchey Award – March 2013 Nominations

We are starting the 2013 series of the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards with nominations for five of our winter season stars, whose achievements are testimony to the Club’s superb season:

Rebecca Keddie
Rebecca is equally at home on the track and in cross country. She had a successful summer season in her favourite middle distance events, but also was a member of the record-breaking 4x100m squad. In the cross country season she has been consistently among the top Club performers: silver in the Club champs and in the Downs League, regular good Surrey League runs + 4th in team, 20th individually + team silver in the Surrey champs.

Phoebe Law
Phoebe only joined the Club (finally...) last year, but has gone from strength to strength since. Already in the summer league matches she won all of her races, but in the cross country season she amassed a long list of superb results, establishing herself as one of the top runners in the South East: Club champion, several Parkrun wins, several Surrey League wins, fastest girl in the Stoke Park Relay + team silver, bronze in the Surrey Champs, silver in the Surrey Schools Champs, 11th + Surrey team gold in the CAU Inter counties, 23rd + Surrey team silver in the English Schools.

Rhianna Reynolds
The only non-cross country athlete among the nominees, Rhianna had a highly successful indoor winter season. She won the Surrey County Award as top U13 Sportshall performer and helped the Surrey team to reach the national finals. In indoor athletics, Rhianna set several new PB’s. She won the Surrey Champs in long jump, and notably with her 10.29m in her first ever triple jump is ranked 2nd nationally.

Sam Shaw
Already in his first season competing as U13, Sam consistently achieved very good results. Bronze in the Club champs, gold individually + in the team in the Downs League, 10th individually + team bronze in Surrey Champs, 4th individually + district team bronze in the Surrey Schools Champs, several excellent Surrey League results + 2nd for team (pretty much single-handedly!).

Neil Wellard

A stalwart in the track & field leagues, Neil is also one of our most prolific and successful cross country athlete. This season he featured highly in the Surrey League (several top results + 1st in team) and the Downs League (individual silver + team gold). This was complemented by Park Run wins, 8th fastest leg + team bronze in the Stoke Park Relays, and 12th place in the Surrey Schools Champs.

Please send me your votes by Saturday 6 April. As always, I am also looking for ideas (particularly from our young athletes!) how to make use of the award money (£200 per award) for the benefit of our young members.
